Durufle’s sublime melodies, French elegance and rich harmonies make his Requiem well worth a listen.
I made this recording with the Britten Sinfonia at Westminster Abbey with The Choir of Westminster Abbey back in January. We were all wearing coats it was so cold! I was seated on the grave of a former prime minister which was a bit surreal.
The sound of the boys’ choir was spellbinding, it’s easy to forget they are just kids. We did a performance a couple of months later at King’s College Cambridge with the King’s College Choir too. There really isn't a sound quite like an English cathedral choir!
