Fanfares are fun

I actually wanted to play the drums when I was little but my mum, quite wisely, said it would take too long to pack down at the end and the car would always be full. So, instead I went for the next most dramatic option and the rest is history. My love for the dramatic entry has been reignited recently with a recording of coronation anthems by the Gabrielli Consort and Players. It was brilliant to play classic anthems like I was Glad by Parry alongside unknown vintage works, 'The King's Herald'. Anyone?

Well, the CD for that project is being put together now and I am pleased that in the meantime I can get my kicks out of another great moment for trumpeters the Dies Irae from Verdi's Requiem. I'll be taking my fanfare trumpet across Europe this Autumn but if you are based in the UK their is a chance to catch it at Westminster Cathedral, London.

I can't wait, although I do still fancy playing that bass drum part...
