Extraordinary Music

 

Jo Harris has performed repertoire bridging Bach to Birtwistle for Bella Tromba, Britten Sinfonia, Gabrieli, Orchestra Revolution et Romantique and Welsh National Opera.

Her studio work includes numerous recordings and broadcasts for the BBC, Hyperion and Universal Studios.

Jo Harris performs for pioneering chamber ensembles and international orchestras. As a soloist she collaborates with world class artists and composers. Jo is a founding member of the award winning brass ensemble Bella Tromba. 

 

Highlights of Jo's recent artistic accomplishments include playing Principal Trumpet in Elena Langer’s opera Rhondha Rips it Up for Welsh National Opera, touring across Europe under the baton of Sir John Elliot Gardiner in Verdi’s epic Requiem and recording the music of all four Coronations with the Gabrielli’s. Forthcoming engagements include an educational series for the Royal Opera House with Bella Tromba and a solo recital of music for trumpet, voice and keys.

Jo was awarded the Park Lane Group Young Artist Award following her studies at the Royal Academy of Music, sparking an interest in working with contemporary composers. She is currently recording solo works by Judith Bingham, James MacMillan and Peter Longworth.

Jo appeared as a Guest Artist representing Bella Tromba at the International Women’s Brass Conference in Toronto, Canada.

Jo performs on handmade instruments by Van Laar and uses mouthpieces and mutes by Denis Wick.

Jo’s highly acclaimed performance of Arvo Part’s Miserere with the Hilliard Ensemble and the BBC Singers was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and she has performed Capricorn Concerto by Samuel Barber (Presteigne Festival/Presteigne Festival Orchestra) and Trumpet Concerti by Telemann, Haydn, Hummel and Vivaldi.
